THE DIRTY LOAD - LAUNDRY SEARCH, LAUNDROMAT SEARCH, DRY CLEAN SEARCH

We were six months into our around-the-World trip, when Gina and I decided that the biggest impediment we had run into during our travels was the convenience of doing our own laundry. Frequently having to wear the same clothes three or four times between washes, we found ourselves desperately searching for a Laundromat on numerous occasions. Between the language barriers, shoddy cartography in our travel guides, and lack of online resources to assist in our time of need, we decided there had to be a better way.

After spending an entire morning hauling two heavy bags of dirty clothes through the labyrinthe alleyways of the Marrakech Medina and stopping at several full-serve dry cleaners who wanted $4 US equivalent to wash a pair of underwear, we were on the brink of a meltdown. Convinced that the local population had to wash their clothing somewhere, we decided to enlist a local cabbie to drive us out of the Medina to a more reasonably priced laundry establishment. To our surprise, he knew just the place – or so we thought!

Unable to speak more than a few words in French or Arabic, we sent the Moroccan driver inside to inquire about pricing. When he returned, we were delighted to hear that the woman had quoted him the equivalent of $0.60 US per item. However, by the time we had unloaded several pounds of smelly clothes onto the woman’s counter, the price had increased by 500%. Flabbergasted at the woman’s apparent attempt to play fleece the foreigners, Gina and I retreated to the Riad with sullen faces and dirty clothing in tow.

During the course of our year abroad, we compiled more stories about laundry than we ever thought imaginable. As a result, we have decided to invest some time and money to help alleviate the problem with the hope that other travelers will benefit from our experiences. This site is dedicated to those who are away from home and in desperate need to clean some smelly underwear at a reasonable price. Our hope is that this site will become self-sustaining with the cooperation of travelers who take a brief moment to add laundry facilities as they encounter them across the Globe.
